Assistant Vice President, SME Remedial Management

Key Responsibilities: 

Strategy

  • Establish and implement effective and efficient rehabilitation procedures, which is in compliance with the existing internal/external guidelines on potential non-performing loans.
  • Establish and implement of an effective early warning framework for early identification of potential problematic accounts for immediate remedial action to minimize credit losses.
  • Develop and implement early warning reports triggers and tools to ensure robustness of the triggers.
  • Work with LOBs to proactively restructures or reschedule credit facilities that show early signs of stress.
  • Plan and monitor the execution of rehabilitation strategy to ensure potential problematic accounts are rehabilitated timely.
  • Timely escalation of potential problem accounts identified and accounts strategy recommendation to management for swift decision.
  • Manage the continuous flow of lesson learnt and feedback to Sales/Credit to improve the robustness of underwriting standard.
  • Review and motoring the productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of remedial management frameworks and make necessary changes and improvements where warrants.
  • Approve restructuring / rescheduling of loans managed under SME Remedial Management within credit policies.

 

Process / System 

  • Ensure continuous periodic review of internal guidelines/procedures to drive efficiency and effectiveness in Remedial Management unit.
  • Enhance MIS reporting and analysis to support swift decision making and strategy.  Automate Early Warning triggers, tools and reports for speedy reporting.

 

People

  • Capacity planning for optimum resource utilization with continuous process improvement / re-engineering initiatives for effective costs management, talent development and retention.
  • Execute/encourage team work, open communication/feedback, coaching and mentoring.
  • Reskill and upskill the staff on EW identification as well as formulation and negotiation of rehabilitation proposal.
  • Provide guidance and motivation to subordinates for their career development and growth.
  • Facilitate necessary training (if required) for Early Warning and Rehabilitation Officers.

 

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Manage SME NBD against budget set.
  • Conduct monthly forecast of loan loss provision and impaired loan for financial planning to ensure no major surprises is encountered. 
  • Timely monthly reporting of Early Warning and Rehabilitation accounts.
  • Portfolio trending monitoring including delinquency and NPL trending.
  • Review potential high risk segments / accounts arising from portfolio review.

 

Job Requirements: 

Skills                

  • Ability to define early warning initiatives / remedial management issues and initiate appropriate changes / enhancements in remedial management framework in response to market developments and business strategy.
  • Good leadership and management skills to deal with and manage a team of remedial management personnel.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to deal with and manage both customers and multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good credit assessment skills for problem credit account strategy planning and implementation.

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge in early warning and rehabilitation practices and various strategies to employ
  • Good market intelligence on KYC.
  • Aware of Malaysian legal system with good understanding on banking laws and of laws relating debts recovery which include civil and bankruptcy proceedings.

Experience

  • At least 8 years of related working experience & exposure in retail / business banking preferably in remedial management in the financial services sector with adequate knowledge in lending principles and problem credit management.
  • Relevant tertiary education / professional qualification preferred.
  • Good working experience in problem credit management for small and medium businesses preferably with a period of profit accountability line management experience.
  • General experience in administration and good understanding of IT / System capabilities.
